Project Description
The World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF) are a democratic international sport body with members worldwide. They are open to everyone with a passion and enthusiasm for Karate. They believe in Karate for all with no barriers to participation.
The WUKF is a democratic non-profit making international sport Karate body and one of the largest in the world. They believe in the basic principle that Karate should be open to all without restriction. The organisation is governed by the Executive Committee (ExCom) which is democratically elected every four years and is the responsible body for leading, governing and organising all WUKF activity.
The Brief
WUKF needed a focal point to bring together their organisation’s principles, events and membership. They wanted to expand their organisation to incorporate more international karate federations and needed a place where they could explain their vision and ethos, to encourage more federations around the world to join up and participate in competition.
Because of the dynamic nature of their organisation, they needed to be able to update the site regularly by themselves, without involving a third party. With everchanging events and frequent news updates, they wanted something simple to operate and simple to navigate for their members and potential members.
Deliverables
Web Design and Development – WUKF wanted a site that was easy to navigate and easier still for them to update and manage by themselves.
Digital Marketing and SEO – The audience for this site was worldwide, so we needed to focus the SEO around karate and local clubs, ensuring the keywords around these were paramount.
Digital Consultancy – WUKF needed to tap into the global karate market, giving them a way to appear in the searches for local karate clubs, so we helped them figure out the best social platforms for them to utilise.

Our Solution
WUKF’s desire to grow its membership and become a world leader in karate federations was the real focus of its site, so we sat down with them and discussed the most important features of this push. They wanted a solid, professional look to the site, pages discussing the various aspects of their organisation so nothing was hidden and new membership was completely encouraged, which matches their mission statement and principles.
So, to get this going we designed the homepage first. Here, they wanted to showcase the upcoming events first and foremost, to show people that there were things going on all over the world that their federations could become involved with should they join the WUKF. As well as this, they wanted to showcase their news segment, giving existing members great content and assuring potential members that they are the experts on all karate matters.
We then added the ways to join, their principles and the various tours that federations can get involved with. The main thing about these was the adaptability. The WUKF wanted to make sure that they didn’t have to keep getting in touch with us every time they wanted to change something. As their events and news were constantly updated, they wanted a simple-to-use, hands-on way of updating the site. So we gave them it!
We then broke down each of these elements into separate pages, displaying their Events and splitting them down into upcoming, past events and results. We embedded their world championship video on a separate page and linked to their constantly updated YouTube page.
We created a strong, easy-to-use blog page where they could constantly update their news features and of course created a portal where new members could sign up, breaking down all the FAQs into separate pages so that no stone was unturned when looking to add new federations to their organisation.
